Bitton v St Nicks preview

Picture
Now to be played 9th May 7.45pm Ko

Bitton play their final game of the season on sunday when they host St Nicholas with the visitors needing a win to secure the championship and promotion to the South West league.

It will bring to an end a very frustrating season for the Ton who slipped up in crucial matches and were left frustrated by 4 games against the bottom teams being cancelled meaning Bitton were given the points but no goals were awarded. This means they have an inferior goal differance to St Nicks. If this was not the case then Bitton may well have been in with a chance of winning the league themselves with a win on Sunday but as it stands they will need an impossible 8-0 win to reverse the differance on St Nicks. If Bitton do take something from the game it could let in 2nd place Forest of Dean to claim the title providing they beat AEk Boco.

So Bitton are likely to finsih the season in 3rd position which means an improvement on last season 4th place finish but they will still feel they should have done better after beating the two teams that will finsih abaove them earlier in the season 6-2 & 5-1. There are rumours circulating at the moment fo a mass player exodus in the summer which would rip the heart of the Ton team out but hopefully all the girls decide to stick together and have another crack at it next season. With a few additions to provide more depth to the squad the Ton will hopefully be challenging for honours again next season.

Sundays game is sure to be a classic with St Nicks knowing they need the win to secure the title and Bitton out to spoil their party. Bittons cause will not be helped as influential striker Terri Marsh is still missing due to her suspension. Usual strike partner Megan Bloomer is expected to be fit however after picking up a knock in last weeks game v's Boco. Carly Bray will continue to play on a damaged ankle and it is hoped Leanne Jones returns from Dublin in time. Nat Hulbert will be given a fitness test on her damaged hamstring prior to the game and may partner Bloomer up front if declared fit.

Since getting hammered 6-2 by Bitton back in October St Nicks have gone on an incredible run that has seen them win all 13 of their games since that day moving them to the top of the table and into the final of the League cup where they will meet Quedgley. One player who will be keen to win and grab a couple of goals on Sunday is top scorer Becky Rexworthy who is currently on 21 goals for the season. She needs 2 on Sunday to draw level with Charmain Turley of Mitcheldean to claim the leagues top scorer.

Picture
Bitton beat Local rivals AEK Boco 4-1 on Sunday thanks to two goals each from Megan Bloomer & Becky Jones.

Full details on Match Report page

The win kept them within touching distance of the top two but they would need a minor miracle and freak result against St nicks to climb above them and also for FOD to slip up against AEK Boco for Bitton to finish in the top two.

St Nicks cemented themselves as favourites for the title on Sunday with a 3-0 win against Cheltennham Civil service.

Bristol Academy reatian GFA Trophy

Picture
Bristol Academy beat Gloucester City 2-0 in last nights GFA Cup final.

Gloucester who beat Bitton in the semi final had plenty of the ball but could not find a way past the well organised Academy defence.

Longwell Green U17's 1-5 Bitton

Bitton came out on top in their friendly with Bristol girls u17 champions Longwell Green. Bitton produced a very sloppy and scrappy performance but still raced into a 4-0 lead before Longwell pulled one back. Bitton completed the scoring late on.

It was one nil when Marsh released Bloomer who hit a shot that beat the keeper at the near post. Hulbert made it 2-0 when she reacted quickest in the box and poked the ball home. Price got the third with a rare goal a she powered home a header from a Bray corner and Marsh scored a breakaway fourth after being played in by Bloomer. The pacy Longwell attack got the goal they deserved to pull one back before Bloomer got her second and Bitton 5th when she volleyed home. There was still time for the longwell keeper to save a Marsh penalty.

Bitton will need to play much better on Sunday when they entertain local rivals AEK Boco

Thursday night football

Picture
Bitton will travel the short distance to play Longwell Green on Thursday night 6.30pm ko. Longwell currently have an u17 side that will be moving into ladies football next season and have asked Bitton if they would give them a game as they look to judge the standard.

Senorita Galliano is likely to play her first game for the Ton as it is a non-competitive fixture. She has not made a league appearance after she failed to gain Internatinal Clearance from the FA

Details of the game will be on the site on Friday Morning

Cup final line-up confirmed

Picture
The two semi finals of the GCWFL were played on sunday and in the game of the day the top two from Dvision 1 locked horns as FOD hosted St nicks. It was a tight affair which St nicks just shaded and was won by a single strike from St nicks forward Amy Jeffries.

They will meet division 2 winners Quedgley wanderers in the final after they overcame Mitcheldean 2-1 in an all Division 2 affair

Summer skittles league

Speak to Chloe Gallagher about this

Will a change in Sport bring Bitton ladies some Glory??

We are planning to purchase a portable skittle alley for Bitton Sports & Social Club, and we hope to run a Six A Side Skittles Competition starting w/c 14th May 2012. We would like to have 12 teams in the competition and play matches on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights for 11 weeks.

Only six players would play in each match, but teams can have as many players signed on as they wish to cover holidays, sickness and other commitments. Matches would be All In, based on the Kingswood Skittles League Rules. Each player will pay £1 per match, making a total of £12. The sticker up will receive £6 and the other £6 will go into the prize pot.

There will be a round robin with each team playing each other. At the end, the four top teams will play off for prizes. If we can get 12 teams the prize pool will be almost £400. We envisage prizes of:-

Winning Team              £150 cash or Voucher for kit worth £200.
Runner Up                    £75 cash or Voucher for kit worth £100.
Losing Semi-Finalists        £50 cash or Voucher for kit worth £75.
Highest Individual Score  £35 Cash or Voucher for kit worth £50.
Highest Lady Score        £25 Cash or Voucher for kit worth £40.

We seek your support to make this work. It will be a chance to socialise outside of the football season, support the Club, and perhaps get kit for your football team, cricket team or archery club.

Please contact myself or Donna if you wish to enter a team.

Regards
Steve Webb(Club treasurer)

If anybody is interested please contact Becky Jones or ask behind the bar.

Be good to have a team from the Ladies involved!!!!!!

Friendly game added

Bitton have agreed to visit Longwell Green on Thursday 12th April-6.30pm ko. Longwell currently play in the u17 league and are moving into womens football next season. They are keen to test themselves against a womens side so they are aware of the standard required and have asked Bitton if they would be able to play them in a friendly.

The match will be played at Longwell Green community centre

Weekend Results

Ouch my head hurts

Picture
Bercky is still happy despite her injuries
Bittons record apperance holder Becky Jones is shown left this morning after another tough game. After playing over 70 games for the TON she has suddenly decided in the last 2 weeks to start heading the ball.

Unfortunately her reasoning for not heading it in the first place that it "Bloody well hurts" proved to be true and she has suffered minor head injuries from her 3 and half headers over the previous 2 games.

Hopefully she will recover in time to face FOD next week where she has promised to try another.

Latest warm up techniques

Bitton v AEK Boco preview

Picture
Esther returns to her homeland this week
Bittons title chances are in serious danger with the squad once agin looking very threadbare. This week the Ton travel to local rovals AEk Boco for what is always a very tough fixture. The task has been made even harder with once again players being unavailiable for numerous reasons. Deb Small will miss the rest of the season after breaking her leg on Tuesday night at Judo and Char Knight is still in India. Captain Meg Price has recovered from her hamstring injury but will once agin be missing as she competes in the Bath Half marathon and Esther Hosznyak has shot off to Hungary for a long weekend break. Leanne Jones is attending a christening but is hoping to be able to get there for the second half. Bitton look set to also be without goalkeeper Chloe Gallagher for several weeks as she has badly damaged her fingers altho her playing outfield may be an option.

The Bitton v Boco clashes are always entertainning games. The teams have not met yet this term in the league but the two sides did face each other in the Fa Cup at the start of the season with Bitton coming out on top 4-1 thanks to goals from Marsh(2),Coates & L Jones

Boco are having a decent first season in Division 1 after coming up last year and currently sit in  mid table and lead the rest of the league that are some points behind the top four who are challenging at the top.Their top scorers this season are Leanne Burge & Lucy Dinham.

Check back Monday for a full report

Char missing for 3 weeks
Bitton welcome St Nicholas this week in the quarter final of the league cup. This tie is a repeat of last seasons final where the Green Army came away with the trophy thanks to a single Becky Rexworthy strike.

The two sides have met a few times over recent seasons with the most recent being the league game back in October that the Ton won 6-2 thanks to goals from Bloomer(2) Marsh(2),Bray & L Jones

If Bitton are to progress to the next round they will have to do it without some key players and make use of the squad. Definately missing is defender Char Knight who is away in India for the next 3 weeks & midfield dynamo Leanne Jones who is in Leeds for the weekend. Captain Meg Price is rated as 50-50 after picking up a hamstring injury last week and did not train this week. She is hopefull to be fit for Sunday but will make a decision before the game. Megan Bloomer who missed last week, Carly Bray & Terri Marsh are all expected to play despite suffering from the flu this week.

Small stuns Cheltenham-20-02-12

Deb during Sundays game
With Sickness hitting the camp on Sunday Bitton handed a first start of the season to veteran Deb Small (pictured left). The 63yr old has been with Bitton since their first season but has found her oppertunities limited this year. She rolled back the years against Cheltenham with a superb performance up top, full of running and skill. She nearly got herself on the scoresheet a few times but just could not force the ball home.

Thank god they had cut the grass!!!!

Bitton v Wotton Bassett preview

Picture
Wotton Bassett
The league cup kicks off this week and Bitton will welcome Division 2 side Wotton Bassett in the 1st round. Bitton have reached the final in the past 2 seasons, losing on both occasions so they will be hopefull of another decent run.

Wotton Basset are having a great season and are challenging for the title in Division 2. They currently sit in fourth but with games in hand on the teams above them. They have scored a lot of goals already and their joint scorers are April Polden and Madeline Elliot who have both struck 14 goals already this season. They have goals from all areas though with Megan Tidy, Kelly Oakes & Nicola Coe all aproaching double figures for the season.

The 2 sides met pre season with Wotton Bassett coming out on top 3-2 with Amber Coates and Esther Hoszynak scoring Bittons goal.

Bitton will be looking to bounce back after last weeks poor performance in the loss against Cheltenham Civil service. They will have to do it without leading scorer Terri Marsh who tried to play last week when already injured and ended up doing more damage to her hamstring, she is likely to be out for a few weeks. Sarah Wilmer is also missing as she is away and Chloe Riley is working. Nat Hulbert should be fit to play despite falling of her horse midweek. Bitton v cheltenham Civil service preview

Picture
Action from last week
Bitton travel to Cheltenham Civil Service on Sunday, in the reverse fixture of last weekend. It was the Ton who took maximum points in a 2-1 win thanks to a last minute goal from Becky Jones. Another tough game is expected as both sides were closely matched last week.

In team news Bitton may have to do without Captain Meg Price who damaged her knee ligaments in the celebration of last week’s opening goal which forced her to come off at half time. Leanne Jones is expected to play despite her injury suffered this week that made the local news. Joner was injured while auditioning for Britains Got talent when her monkey juggling act went horrifically wrong. Definately missing is Deb Small who is representing Great Britain At The Judo OAP Tournament. Sarah Wilmer & Becky Hurst should return to the squad after missing last weeks game.

Bitton v Cheltenham Civil service preview-12/01/12

Picture
Captain Meg set to miss out Sunday
Bitton start the new year off with a crunch top of the table clash as leaders Cheltenham Civil service visit the Rapid Solicitors ground. Bitton currently sit second in the table with games in hand on the leaders so a win for either team would be a massive boost. Neither team can really afford to drop any more points with both Forest of Dean and St Nicholas breathing down their necks and looking to continue their challenge.

The two sides have only met once before when Cheltenham Civil service won last season’s game 2-1 thanks in main to a superb performance from their star Gemma Riley. Riley is constantly on the scoresheet with 10 goals already this term and won last season’s game with a scorching 30 yard drive. She will definitely need to be watched if Bitton are to get anything out of the game.

Bitton look set to be without influential captain Megan Price on Sunday as she continues her Drama Studies & Sarah Wilmer is still struggling with Flu. Leanne Jones should be availiable after flying back from Nevada where she has the week off from her NASA aeronautical cadet training so Bitton should be able to choose from a near full strength squad. The front two of Megan Bloomer & Terrence Marsh will be looking to continue the red hot form that produced 24 goals between them in only 8 games prior to xmas.
